Using a 3 Lug Mount For Your Suppressor
If you're looking for a quick detach method to attach your Obsidian9/45 to your subgun or PCC, the 3 Lug Mount is the solution for you. In addition to it's quick detach benefits, the 3 Lug Mount prevents any walk off. Walk off occurs when a suppressor becomes unthreaded while firing and can cause end cap strikes. 3 Lug Mounts can only be used with fixed barreled firearms like subguns and pistol caliber carbines and are not compitble with handguns.
WHAT IS A 3-LUG MOUNT?
A 3 Lug Mount is a system containing 3 different components: piston, spring and retainer. The 3 Lug Mount allows you to attach and detach your suppressor in seconds, which makes it a very popular mounting system. We offer 3 Lug Mounts in two variations - 9mm and 45ACP. While the 9mm mount is typically used for 9mm it can also be used with .38 Sepcial, 350 Legend and 300 BLK subsonic. The 45ACP version is commonly used on lever guns like 45-70 and 44 Mag in addition to 45ACP subgun and carbines. In order to use the 3 Lug Mount you need to completely remove whatever mounting system is currently in your Obsidian, then simply thread in the 3 Lug Mount. Unlike a direct thread mount or booster system that threads directly onto your firearm's threads the 3 Lug Mount does require a 3 Lug Adapter to attach to.
WHAT IS A 3-LUG ADAPTER?
The 3 Lug Adapter threads onto your firearm and serves as the male compenent for attaching your suppressor and 3 Lug Mount (female compenent). Similar to the 3-lug mount, there is a 9mm version and a 45ACP version. You must use the corresponding caliber between your mount and adapter. For example, a 45ACP mount requires a 45ACP adapter. Our 9mm 3 Lug Mount requires an HK Spec 3 Lug Adapter (this is the most commen specification adapters are built to). The 45ACP 3 Lug Mount is built for use with B&T spec 45 3 Lug Adapters (also the most common specification used). In order to allow the 3 Lug Mount to be compatible with multiple firearms, 3 Lug Adapters come in various thread pitches. For example, some 9mm carbines have 1/2x28 thread pitches, while others have 1/2x36 or even M13.5x1LH, we offer 3 Lug Adapters in all of those thread pitches to accomodate them.
You can get 3 Lug Adapters from a multitied of companies (as long as they are made to the correct specification), however the Rugged 3 Lug Adapter Adapter features our Go/No Go Gauge which has made it extremely popular. The benefit of the Go/No Go Gauge is that it provides visual confirmation that your suppressor is properly attached. This is demostrated in the graphic below. If "No Go" is covered and only "Go" is visible the suppressor is properly attached and you won't have to worry about shooting your suppressor down range.
Overview
Using a 3 Lug Mount is slightly more expensive since it requires a 3 Lug Mount and 3 Lug Adapter (unless your firearm came with one), however being able to quickly attach/dettach your suppressor without having to worry about walk off is worth it to most people. If you don't mind spending a bit more time to thread on your suppressor and checking that it remains tight the Fixed Mount is an alternative to the 3 Lug system that will save you some money. It allows you to directly thread your Obsidian onto your firearm and comes in a multitude of thread pitches in order to accommodate your firearm.
